«Return to Blog List Rock Out at the California Mid-State Fair, July 17-28

Mid-State Fairenlarge

The first thing that comes to mind when people think of things to do in Paso Robles are the wine festivals.  It’s true, Paso Robles produces some of the best and most beautiful wine you will find in California, and even the world.  More than 25 varietals of grapes are grown in our region, and our annual Zinfandel Festival is one of the most eagerly anticipated wine festivals of the year.  But there’s more to us than just our delicious wine…

Summer brings the return of the annual California Mid-State Fair, the “Biggest Little Fair Anywhere.”  Since it first opened in 1946 as the humble San Luis Obispo County Fair, Paso Robles has been host to this spectacular 12 day event, which has become the must-see-and-do party of the summer, chock full of plenty of fun, food, great entertainment, beautiful exhibits, and some of the best concerts put on by international superstars.

July 17th sees the kick off of this year’s party and the lineup of events for 2013 promise to delight and never disappoint.  There is so much to do at the Fair, 12 days won’t seem like enough!  Daily entry starts at $6 for children and $10 for adults.  From Livestock and Equestrian shows, to children’s Mutton Bustin’ Rodeos and the always hilarious Diaper Derby, there’s plenty of things to do and see to keep you entertained each and every day you attend.  Exquisite and awe-invoking exhibits are all throughout the Fair, with beautiful fine art, photography, industrial, home and craft displays to inspire and get your creativity flowing.

Make sure to take a peek at the beautiful Tractor Restorations featured each day, where passionate artists of their own right have painstakingly worked to re-beautify icons of our days gone by.  And of course, what Fair would be complete without a proper Carnival, filled with all your favourite county fair rides?  Wristbands for the Carnival are just $30-$35 depending on the day you attend and get you access to all the unlimited spins, flips and stomach-churning rides your heart desires.

While the carnival, events and the exhibits make up the real meat of the Mid-State Fair, it’s no secret that the real draw and most celebrated and anticipated part of the show are the summer concerts put on each day of the Fair.  Now, this is not your average concert musical fare.  Global superstars from every genre gather to headline each night of the festival, and the Fair has been host to some of the biggest names in the music industry over the years, and across all genres.  There’s something for everyone to enjoy.  This year’s lineup features such superstar talent as Tim McGraw, John Mayer, Van Halen, Huey Lewis and the News, and American Idol’s Adam Lambert.  Tickets can be purchased on-site on the day of each show, so be sure to lineup early so you don’t miss out!

Our beautiful Adelaide Inn is located less than 10 minutes away from the Fairgrounds and offers the perfect place for you to wind down your night after a fantastic day at the fair.  Our beautiful rooms offer some of the finest in luxury California hospitality, with pillow-top mattresses on every bed to comfortably cradle your weary body each of the 12 nights after the fair.
